Bernardini, Into Mischief Colts Top Second Session of Kentucky October Yearlings

The second session of the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearlings sale was held Tuesday, October 24, at the Newtown Paddocks in Lexington, Kentucky. A pair of colts by proven sires Bernardini and Into Mischief shared top billing when hammered down for $500,000 each.

A colt by the late Bernardini (Hip 714) was the first to $500,000 when sold to Jesse Longoria, agent for Kiehne & Brunson, from the consignment of Scott Mallory, agent for Determined Stud (video). The bay colt is the second foal out of the stakes placed Medaglia d'Oro mare Knarsdale, from the immediate family of graded stakes winners Passion for Action and Payton d'Oro. Hip 714 was bred in Kentucky by 2500 Determined Stud.

"It was another solid session today, a continuation of the same trends that we've seen throughout the yearling sales season." said Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning. "It's nice to have a $500,000 late in the session and there's still a lot of people here in attendance."

Also sold for $500,000 was a colt by Into Mischief (Hip 788) purchased by Donato Lanni, agent for SF Bloodstock, Starlight Racing, and Madaket Stables, from the consignment of Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent (video). The bay colt is out of the graded stakes placed Tiznow mare Live for Now, already the dam of a winner. Live for Now is out of broodmare of the year Turko's Turn, making her a half-sister to eight winners, including Horse of the Year Point Given and Perfect Story, dam of Grade 2 winner Street Story and stakes winner Paige. Hip 788 was bred in Kentucky by Susan Casner.

Rounding out the top five prices of the session were:

• A filly by Uncle Mo (Hip 669), sold for $380,000 to Top McCrocklin, agent for Champion Equine, from the consignment of Mill Ridge Sales, agent. The bay filly is out of the graded stakes winning Congrats mare Jacaranda, making her a half-sister to two winners, including stakes placed American West (American Pharoah), and to Be You (Curlin), recently third in the American Pharoah S. (G1) at Santa Anita. From the immediate family of Grade 1 winners Constitution, Emcee, and Awesome Humor, Hip 669 was bred in Kentucky by Alpha Delta Stables.
• A filly by Medaglia d'Oro (Hip 414), sold for $350,000 to DJ Stable from the consignment of Anderson Farms, agent. Out of the winning Elusive Quality mare Elusive Luci, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Stormy Lucy, the bay filly is herself a half-sister to two winners, including Grade 2 winner Big Runnuer (Stormy Atlantic). Hip 414 was bred in Ontario by Anderson Farms.
• A colt by leading sire Into Mischief (Hip 651), sold for $325,000 to M & T Racing from the consignment of Blake-Albina Thoroughbred Services, agent. The bay colt is a half-brother to five winners from as many to race out of the Pulling Punches mare Indy Punch, included multiple Grade 2 winner and millionaire United (Giant's Causeway), graded stakes winner Harlan Punch (Harlan's Holiday), and stakes winner and stakes producer Tensas Punch (War Front). From the immediate family of Grade 1 winner Liaison, Hip 651 was bred in Kentucky by Newtownanner Stud Farm.

"(There's a) great crowd, plenty of action, plenty of bidders," added Browning. "We're looking forward to doing it again tomorrow and Thursday."

During the Tuesday session, 260 yearlings sold for $12,856,500, good for an average of $49,448. Thirty-one (31) yearlings sold for $100,000 or more. Over the course of the first two sessions, 520 yearlings sold for $24,157,300, with an average of $46,456, and 67 sold for $100,000 or more.
