Hip 400, a colt by Triple Crown hero American Pharoah, sold for $1,250,000 during the second session of the Selected Yearlings Showcase. The dark bay or brown colt was purchased by Speedway Stables from the consignment of Denali Stud, agent for Bayne & Christina Welker.

American Pharoah was last year's champion Freshman Sire, whose first crop of two-year-olds include Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G2) winner Four Wheel Drive and Jessamine S. (G2) winner Sweet Melania, who added the Wonder Again S. (G3) to her resume in June. In 2020, American Pharoah is also responsible for graded/group stakes winners Turned Aside and Harvey's Lil Goil in the United States; Cafe Pharoah in Japan; and Pista in England.

This colt is out of the multiple stakes winning Victory Gallop mare Swingit, who has already produced five winners from as many to race, including multiple Grade 1 placed victor Neolithic. Swingit's current two-year-old, Travel Column (Frosted), is a winner in one start this year at 2 since the catalogue, breaking her maiden by 4 lengths at Churchill Downs on the Kentucky Oaks undercard. The immediate family includes champions Carnauba and Housemaster, as well as Grade 1 winner Smart N Slick.

Hip 400 was bred in Kentucky by Mrs. & Mrs. Bayne Welker Jr.
