The Kentucky Winter Mixed sale, the last public auction before the North American breeding season begins, kicked off Monday with several exciting six-figure offerings, including racing/broodmare prospects, broodmares, and short yearlings.

The session topper came in the form of Over Emphasize (Hip 184), a MGSP winning daughter of Overanalyze. Andre Lynch, agent purchased the four-year-old racing/broodmare prospect for $150,000 from the consignment of St George Sales, agent (video). A winner last year at three, Over Emphasize finished third in the San Clemente S. (G2) and in the Honeymoon S. (SA) in her last two starts of 2019. She has earned $109,745 to date.

"I thought today was as expected," said Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning. "If you had a horse that stood out, there was plenty of interest and plenty of activity."

A colt from the first crop of Cigar Mile H. (G1) winner Connect became the top-priced short yearling of the session when sold to Blue Sky Stable for $140,000 (video). Consigned as Hip 254 by Bluewater Sales, agent, the dark bay or brown colt is a half-brother to two winners from three to race out She Be Keene (Posse). That mare is a half-sister to Champion Two-Year-Old Filly She Be Wild. Hip 154 was bred in Kentucky by Nancy Mazzoni.

The session's top broodmare was Me and Mine (Hip 127), a daughter of Bernardini in foal to Kantharos sold for $135,000. Dash Goff purchased the six-year-old mare from the consignment of Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent. Me and Mine is a half-sister to three stakes horses, and hails from the immediate family of European champion Hold That Tiger and Belmont S. (G1) winner Editor's Note. The mare is carrying her second foal; she produced a filly by Maclean's Music last year.

Last year's Captiva Island S. winner Samara (Hip 244) was Monday's highest priced broodmare prospect. Jack Harvey, agent for Joseph DiRico, purchased the stakes winning Hard Spun mare for $135,000 from the consignment of Brookdale Sales, agent. The six-year-old mare is from the immediate family of Champion Two-Year-Old Filly Outstandingly and Grade 1 winners Maxfield and Sky Mesa.

"Tomorrow is a much stronger day in terms of quality of offerings," Browning added.

Through the first session, 180 horses sold for $3,369,200. The average was $18,718 and the median was $8,000.

The Kentucky Winter Mixed sale resumes tomorrow at 10 AM.
