Curlin Colt Sets Gulfstream Sale Record at $3.65 Million
Hip 173, a colt by CURLIN, became the highest priced two-year-old ever to be sold at The Gulfstream Sale when sold for $3,650,000 late at the 2019 Gulfstream Sale. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in 10:0 (video), was purchased by Jamie McCalmont & Donato Lanni, agents for M.V. Magnier from the consignment of Crupi’s New Castle Farm, agent.
By two-time Horse of the Year CURLIN, this colt is a half-brother to ARABIAN HOPE, a Group 1 placed stakes winner in England and a group stakes winner in Turkey, and a three-parts brother to stakes winner COUNTERFORCE, by SMART STRIKE. This is the immediate family of Grade 1 winning juvenile STREAMING and stakes winner TREASURING, both bred on the same cross as this colt. The immediate family further includes European champion and millionaire THEWAYYOUARE and Belmont S. (G1) winning half-siblings RAGS TO RICHES (champion) and JAZIL.
