The inaugural California Fall Yearlings sale was held Thursday at Fairplex in Pomona, CA.

The sale topper came in the form of Hip 25, a colt by current Leading Second Crop Sire Goldencents, which sold for $150,000. The February colt was purchased by Steve Gasparelli-Slugo Racing from the consignment of Fairview LLC. Out of multiple stakes winner Bold Roberta, the sale topper is a half-brother to seven winners from as many to race, including multiple stakes winner and recent Luther Burbank H. victor Bella Luma. Hip 25 was bred in California by Thomas W. Bachman.

Six yearlings met the six-figure market, a pair of colts by California sire Square Eddie, who is among the top sires in California and the program's current Leading 2YO Sire in 2019. The remainder of the top hips included sons of Hard Spun, Sky Mesa, and current Leading General Sire Into Mischief.

Overall, 137 yearlings sold for a total of $3,667,800, good for an average of $26,772. The median was $13,000.

Twenty consignors supported Fasig-Tipton's return to the Golden State yearling market, led by Havens Bloodstock, which sold 26 yearlings for $581,200. Jay Em Ess Stable topped the buyer list, with four yearlings purchased for $335,005. Twenty-six buyers spent $50,000 or more.
