The second and final session of the 2025 Fasig-Tipton New York Bred Yearlings sale, conducted Monday afternoon in the Humphrey S. Finney Pavilion in Saratoga Springs, established new sale records for gross, average, and median.

The session’s top hip came in the form of a colt by Practical Joke (hip 502), sold for $525,000 to Sallusto and Kimmel, agent for MWG, from the consignment of Indian Creek, agent (video). The price tag represented the fourth highest paid for a colt in the history of this sale. The gray or roan colt is out of the unraced Cherokee Run mare Cuello de Luna, who has already produced six winners from as many to race. The immediate family includes champions Cozzene and Tia Gigi. Hip 502 was bred by Stone Ridge Farm.

A filly by Early Voting matched the top price when sold for $525,000 during the sale’s first session Sunday night. The price was ultimately good for second highest price ever paid for a filly at the New York Bred Yearlings sale.

“It was four spectacular days of selling at Saratoga,” said Fasig-Tipton Boyd Browning, including in his reference The Saratoga Sale held August 4 & 5. Together, gross sales were nearly $125,000,000.  “I don’t know any other way to describe it. It was a fantastic marketplace. We really had a strong group of horses on the grounds for the New York Bred sale.”

Rounding out the top five hips of the session were:

  • A filly by Street Sense (hip 522), sold for $400,000 to Hudson River Farm from the consignment of Paramount Sales, agent. The bay filly is the second foal out of the winning Galileo mare Evening Primrose (IRE), a full sister to group stakes winner Sizzling (IRE) from the immediate family of Horses of the Year and two-time leading sire A.P. Indy. Hip 522 was bred by Thirty Year Farm.
  • A filly by Constitution (hip 408), sold for $390,000 to John Eaton from the consignment of Eaton Sales, agent. The dark bay or brown filly is the first foal out of the stakes winning Quality Road mare Too Sexy, herself a half-sister to graded stakes winner Slipstream. Hip 408 was bred by Kathleen Burke Schweizer, Daniel J. Burke, & Clement Stable.
  • A filly by Nyquist (hip 403), sold for $370,000 to Klaravich Stables from the consignment of Fort Christopher’s Thoroughbreds, agent. The dark bay or brown filly is out of the stakes placed Violence mare Three Hawk, herself a half-sister to Grade 2 winner and multiple graded stakes performer Bern Identity out of the Grade 1 placed graded stakes winning mare Maddalena. Hip 403 was bred by Ned Williams, Mike Matese, & Jack Murray.
  • A filly by Nyquist (hip 501), sold for $360,000 to Klaravich Stables from the consignment of Denali Stud, agent for Waterville Lake Stables. The bay filly is out of the winning Street Cry (IRE) mare Cuccidati, already the dam of two winners from three starters. This filly’s third dam is Grade 1 winner Sugar Shake. Hip 501 was bred by Waterville Lake Stables.

“This is what happens when you have quality horses,” added Browning. “You know, this New York-bred program is without any question the best state-bred program in the United States. There continues to be a concerted and collective effort to improve it, and it’s thriving. That is reflected in these sales results today.”

Over the course of both sessions, 198 yearlings sold for a record gross of $23,820,000 up 24.7% from last year when 182 yearlings sold for $19,095,500. The previous record gross was established in 2023 when 219 yearlings sold for $20,904,000. This year’s average rose 14.7% to $120,303 from last year’s average of $104,920. The average eclipsed the previous watermark set in 2018 at $107,512.
