OXO Equine Goes to $850,000 for Colonel John Colt
Hip 528, a colt by Colonel John, sold for $850,000 at the Midlantic Two-Year-Olds in Training sale. The bay colt was purchased by OXO Equine LLC from the consignment of Randy Miles, agent after working an eighth in 10.1 (video).
Colonel John is the sire of Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup S. (G1) winner La Coronel. Hip 528 is bred on a similar cross to Grade 1 winner and successful young sire Morning Line; to Grade 2 winners Norumbega, Tiz Shea D, Tiz Window, and Carinosa (ARG); and to 2019 Santa Anita Oaks (G1) runner up Flor de La Mar.
This colt is the second foal out of the winning A. P. Warrior mare Tayrona. That mare is a daughter of stakes placed winner Polly Alexander (IRE), making her a half-sister to five other winners, including stakes winners Gabo’s Maconda and Undulated. The female family also includes Grade 2 winner and multiple Grade 1 placed Medici Code (GB).
