Vekoma Colt Tops Midlantic June Two-Year-Olds in Training
The 2024 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic June Two-Year-Olds in Training sale, held Tuesday, June 25, at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Maryland, was topped by a colt from the first crop of Vekoma. With eight winners to date from 14 starters, Vekoma is currently the second leading first-crop sire by earnings and first by winners.
Hip 4, a colt by Vekoma out of Elusively, sold for $150,000 to Gracie Bloodstock, agent, from the consignment of Mason Springs, agent (video). The dark bay or brown colt is out of a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Colonel Sharp, from the immediate family of Grade/Group 1 winners Sharp Cat and Royal Anthem. Bred in New Jersey by Gregory Kilka, Hip 4 is now three times a Fasig-Tipton sales graduate, having sold at the Kentucky Winter Mixed and Kentucky October Yearlings sales in 2023. The sale topper worked an eighth in 10.0 during the under tack show (video).
The session's top filly was Hip 30, a daughter of Munnings sold for $85,000 to Patrice Miller, EQB, agent, from the consignment of Crane Thoroughbred Services, agent (video). The chestnut filly is the first foal out of graded stakes placed Honor Code mare Roadrunner's Honor, and hails from the immediate family of multiple champion and Group 1 winner Order of St George (IRE). Hip 30 was bred in Kentucky by Burleson Farms, Nice Guys Stables, Manganaro Bloodstock, et al. The top filly worked an eighth in 10.1 during the under tack show (video).
Overall, 45 juveniles sold for $1,394,000, good for an average of $30,978. The median was $25,000.
