DJ Stable to $230,000 for First Crop Runhappy Colt
Hip 227, a colt from the first crop of Runhappy, sold for $230,000 during the first session of the Kentucky October Yearlings sale. The dark bay or brown colt was purchased by DJ Stable LLC from the consignment of James B. Keogh (Grovendale), agent.
Runhappy, crowned Eclipse Champion Male Sprinter in 2015, won three Grade 1 events in his career, including that year's Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1). Prior to setting a track record in the Breeders' Cup, Runhappy also won the Bishop S. (G1), Malibu S. (G1), and Phoenix S. (G3) on his way to career earnings of $1,496,250. He won seven of 10 lifetime starts, and his first foals are yearlings of 2019.
This colt is out of the stakes winning Horse Chestnut (SAF) mare Charming N Lovable, dam of seven winners to date, including Grade 1 winner Fault, and stakes horses Betweenhereandcool and Congenial. That mare herself is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Mananan McLir and stakes winning Big Sur. Charming N Lovable is also a half-sister to the dams of Grade 2 winner Fioretti and 2019 multiple Grade 1 winning juvenile filly Bast.
Hip 227 was bred in Kentucky by Judy B. Hicks.
